Something Wicked has come to ROLI Learn

Wicked is back! And we're celebrating the release of Wicked: For Good, the second film in John M. Chu's film adaptation of the world-famous Broadway musical, with all new songs available for you to play in the ROLI Learn app.

L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has seen countless adaptations across film, theatre, and television—from the celebrated 1939 classic starring Judy Garland, to 1978’s The Wiz, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, to a 2005 Muppet-studded retelling, The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz. But when it comes to Broadway, nothing is more iconic than Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz. The musical, written by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, was loosely based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, itself a reinterpretation of Baum’s original work. While so many adaptations already sound a bit overwhelming, it wouldn’t stop there.

Having taken the world by storm, the long-running Broadway musical was brought from the stage to the silver screen once more in a two-part film series directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. While Wicked (2024) depicted the first act of the musical, today we’re celebrating the release of the second film's reimagining of the second act, as former fierce rivals turned intimate confidantes Elphaba and Glinda show us exactly why pink goes so well with green.
