As seen on TV (and elsewhere): ROLI Piano and Airwave in the wild

Our latest innovations are almost ready, and some of the prototypes are already out there. Have you spotted them?

It’s no secret that we’ve been hard at work refining the final versions of ROLI Piano and Airwave, making the final touches and getting them ready to send out to eager music makers around the world.

There have, however, been a few sightings already. A small number of lucky musicians, creators, and even the odd TV presenter have managed to get their hands on either Piano, Airwave, or both a little early.

And while we can (and do!) like to tell you all about how great both of these products are for both learning and making music, we think it’s better to let others speak for us. That’s why we’ve rounded up all of those early impressions and media appearances in one place — scroll down to check them all out.

Unbox Therapy

Lewis Hilsenteger, a veritable YouTube sensation at this point, was one of the very first people outside of ROLI to spend some quality time with the Piano/Airwave pairing — and he has plenty of good things to say about his experience. Watch for his initial impressions, then follow along as he gets set up and begins learning to play piano and eventually make some music of his own.

On stage with Lauryn Hill

Airwave’s first live outing may have been with Marco Parisi at our own launch event, but eagle-eyed observers may have spotted it on a bigger stage with Lauryn Hill at the O2 Arena late last year. It was nestled in behind the Seaboard of her keys player, Sam Gutman. You can also check out a run-down of his favorite sounds from the included Airwave Player software here on our blog.

Sonic state

Sonic State has long been a trusted resource for gear aficionados the world over, many of whom tune into their regular coverage of the NAMM trade show to catch a first look at the latest innovations in music technology. And this year was no different. Here, they meet with our very own product expert Heen, who gives them a quick tour of both new pieces of hardware.

Andrew Huang

If you’re into modular synthesizers, DAWs, guitar pedals, or just music-making in general, you’ve no doubt come across Andrew Huang. His infectious enthusiasm and educational-yet-entertaining approach to every topic he tackles made him the  perfect person to provide some thoughts on an easy prototype of Airwave. And, as you can probably tell from the title of the resulting video, he was suitably impressed by the experience.

CNET

Trusted tech outlet CNET spent some time with ROLI Founder Roland Lamb recently, and got a private tour of Airwave’s capabilities. Watch as he shows CNET producer Carly Marsh around the hardware and demonstrates how it works for both learners and music makers.

Mrwhosetheboss

It’s not a toy, if you ask us, but we will concede that learning with ROLI Piano is a whole lot of fun. In this video British YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss, pits it against everything from an iPhone-controlled paper airplane to a Nerf-dart minigun. Given the stiff competition (we want all of these), we’re pretty satisfied with the second place he awarded us.

The Price is Right

Piano M was recently featured in an episode of long-running daytime-TV staple The Price is Right. Can you really put a price on learning to play an instrument? If you’re in the US and subscribed to Paramount+ (sorry, everyone else), you can watch the episode here to find out.

KTLA TV

Another appearance for Roland Lamb, who this time visited KTLA’s No. 1-rated news show to give tech reporter Rich DeMuro a preview of what the ROLI Piano and Airwave combo can do. Watch for a closer look at some of the lessons, games, and exercises included in the ROLI Learn App, as well as a closer look at how Airwave’s hand-tracking works in practice.
