Today, we’re excited to unveil the next evolution of the ROLI learning ecosystem. We call it AI Music Coach, but you can call it “Roli”. It provides intelligent, conversational guidance that’s tailored precisely to your interests and goals as well as your unique strengths and weaknesses. For the first time, your piano can “learn” you too.

Thanks to Airwave’s infrared camera technology, AI Music Coach sees not just what you play but how you play in incredible detail, allowing it to give precise feedback when you need it most. With the update, Airwave’s hand-tracking technology is now more deeply embedded in the learning experience than ever before.

How does it work? Like with the Piano Assistant beta we added last year, you simply talk to “Roli”; the AI voice models used are now even more advanced, and also available in 40 different languages. No matter what you’re doing in the app, your AI Music Coach will stay by your side, tailoring the experience to you, providing real-time spoken feedback, and deciding when you’re ready to progress.

“We are very excited about this breakthrough in music learning, and application of AI to empower humans and their musicality. It’s the opposite of AI slop.” said Roland Lamb, co-founder and CEO of ROLI. “The combination of hand tracking, advanced voice capabilities, and deep musical knowledge, results in an entirely new type of practice, with a teacher, or for standalone practice. It’s more fun, but also more effective, because the AI Coach can give you feedback on your technique. You don’t need to be able to read music to learn, you don’t even need to be able to read.”

When can you try AI Music Coach for yourself? Soon: Existing Airwave owners can sign up to be considered for a limited closed beta beginning February 5, and a public beta will be available by the end of March. Keep an eye on your inbox for details.
