See the new all-black Seaboard RISE 2 keyboard in action
Watch a Seaboard pro emulate the tones and playing techniques of nine traditional instruments
Seaboard has always been known for helping musicians bridge the gap between keyboard techniques and those of more traditionally expressive instruments like strings, horns, and woodwinds. And with growing numbers of realistic sampled and modeled virtual instruments now available — many of which support MPE — that’s more true now than ever.
In this video, ROLI’s Head of Film and Music Production, Heen, uses the new all-black Seaboard RISE 2 to show us how he mimics the techniques that make nine different traditional instruments so expressive. The performances that Seaboard’s five dimensions of touch enable make it easy to imagine you’re hearing the real thing — from guitar vibrato to upright bass portamento, and even the effect of squeezing accordion bellows.
Instruments featured include several from Audio Modelling’s physically modeled SWAM collection, which supports MPE right out of the box, and some from Kontakt. If you need help getting the latter to respond to Seaboard’s gestures, check out our handy guide.
