BT Phobos: Epic soundscaping synth works like a dream with Seaboard
Spitfire Audio's new synth opens a box of marvels for cinematic composers.
From the minds of electronic virtuoso BT and Spitfire Audio comes a new “polyconvolution” synth that opens a box of marvels for cinematic composers. BT Phobos has 20 gigs of sounds — basses, pads, loops, textures — for any atmosphere or project. There are ominous freightliner horns, starry-night tingles, melancholy strings, atonal metal scrapes, and swooshing, whiplashing loops.
The sounds are just the beginning. The whole structure of the synth is built for creative exploration. You can assign four source sounds to four keyboard ranges and three convolvers to three keyboard ranges — that’s where the “polyconvolutional” comes in. And you can make the sounds your own through filters, pitch controls, gates, and other modulation options.
Seaboard RISE and Seaboard Block are shaping up to be the perfect multidimensional controllers for BT Phobos. The synth’s rich textures can be bent, warped, and layered with the simplest movements. Check out Heen’s performance on two Seaboard Blocks.
BT Phobos is a standalone soft synth and a plugin in AU, VST, and VST3 formats. Learn more about BT Phobos from Spitfire Audio, and check out the video below:
